Legal Secretary
Description The City Attorney’s Office is recruiting for a Legal Secretary to provide administrative support, deliver quality customer service, ensure deadlines are met and maintain strict confidentiality. The incumbent is expected to independently perform a full scope of assigned duties including administrative support, organization and coordination of work load, filing documents with the Court, assisting with the preparation, processing and monitoring of the department budget.
Duties Performs a wide variety of routine, time sensitive, confidential and complex administrative support tasks and duties. Responsible for the coordination and scheduling of the City Attorney’s calendar. Demonstrates an understanding of policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties. Prepares and proofreads a variety of forms and documents, including general correspondence, legal documents, reports and memos from rough drafts or verbal instruction. Researches public records requests, coordinates gathering of information and response to all requests for public information within the ten-day response time, and performs a variety of legal research. Responsible for the preparation of general correspondence, contracts, agreements, staff reports, resolutions and presentations. Maintains the filing system ensuring compliance with legal archiving requirements and the City records retention policy. Receives and reviews insurance claims and prepares initial drafts of response documents for attorney review. Establishes positive working relationships with representatives of community organizations, state/local agencies and associations, City Council, management, staff and the public.
Experience A typical way of obtaining the required qualifications is to possess the equivalent of two years of significant, directly related and progressive clerical experience in a legal setting or a related field, and a high school diploma or equivalent. Additionally, the ideal candidate will also have the following attributes:a positive attitude, a team player, highly motivated and maintain strict confidentiality.
Compensation $29.30 - $35.61/hour
