Lathrop's Citizen's Police Academy
Lathrop Police Services proudly announces its Citizen's Academy. The goal of the
Lathrop Police Services Citizens Academy is to promote a better relationship between
the police department and our community it serves. The Citizen's Academy is being
offered two hours a week on consecutive Wednesdays over a nine-week period. To help
better-inform citizens by fostering a clearer understanding of a police officer's
duties and how the officer carries out those duties. After completion of the academy
you will be eligible to participate in a one time "ride along" with an
officer.
Instructors for the academy will be comprised of San Joaquin County Sheriff's Deputies
and civilian staff members. Class topics will include Internal Affairs, Community
Oriented Policing, Patrol Procedures, Narcotics, Gangs, Hostage Negotiation, Domestic
Violence, Crime Prevention, K-9, Swat, Traffic Enforcement and more.
Applicants must meet the following criteria: minimum age of 21, no misdemeanor arrests
within one year of application (all past arrest will be considered in the screening
process), no prior felony convictions, pass a security check and live or work in
Lathrop.
Applications can be picked up at the police station located at 15597 S. Seventh
Street, Lathrop City Hall, or at the Lathrop Community Center. Academy size will
be limited to 25 citizens. Applicants will be notified in writing regarding acceptance
to the Citizens Academy program.
