Hello!
Perhaps I've addressed this to the wrong person, but I'm writing today about the plague of fireworks in town, especially all the illegal fireworks. It's been absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable, and getting worse in recent years. It's severely detrimental to wildlife and pets; triggers people with certain PTSD; causes an unnecessary risk of fire and property damage when we're in a severe drought; disrupts people who need to sleep for work the next day; releases toxic chemicals into our air, waterways and soil; creates so much unnecessary debris and ash which are allowed to blow around city streets. And why would anybody issue a permit for a fireworks stand, even "safe and sane", to operate on the lot of a fuel station (Power Market @ Harlan & Lathrop roads) where an accident could prove disastrous? People have been abusing these fireworks for weeks now, and I expect it won't die off for several days yet. Something needs to be done to put a stop to it, and if the state or county won't step up, the city and forming Lathrop PD should be prepared to do so next year.
