Hello. I am submitting this concern because I feel that the city of Lathrop needs to be aware of the incident I experienced at around 7:00 pm today (May 28th) by the roundabout near City Hall. Seeing many hate crimes in the news today is what encouraged me to put in this complaint.
I was walking back home around 7 pm and crossed the street where the roundabout by city hall is (mckee blvd) is and noticed an individual wearing a beanie on a bicycle who was across the street. I continued walking on the sidewalk right next to the entrance of city hall when I noticed he stared at me and crossed the street and began riding his bike right next to me on the street. He then proceeded to ride his bike in circles while riding next to me about 5 inches away from me. I ignored him and continued my walk even though I was very afraid. He then went off and rode his bike on McKee and brought his friend who was standing at the end of the sidewalk and he got on the same bike as him and they started to ride the bike very close to me again, which was very frightening seeing two males literally following me. I continued walking and turned on Autumn rain and shockingly, they (caucasian or hispanic males) also turned onto autumn rain and rode their bike right in front of me just to frighten me. I was afraid they would throw or maybe attack me because I was walking alone. I wear a headscarf which is why I was also afraid that they were targeting me. I quickly walked back home, making no eye contact with these hooligans. I am sure they were going to attack me but I remained calm and collected, which is what saved me.
I am unsure of who to forward my request to but I have noticed that the city becomes very chaotic at night. For example, there are always cars parked at night inside of the park's parking lot by city hall with individuals who do not even live in Lathrop. I am submitting this concern not only for my safety but for the safety of every individual in the city of Lathrop. I hope the city can have the police drive once a day around the evening near the side of city hall to ensure safety of all individuals. I understand Lathrop is a diverse city, but that does not ensure there will be no targeting of individuals who are of different races and religions. I am hoping there could be flyers or some sort of meeting informing people that crimes are not tolerated here in Lathrop.
