On Thursday 12/29/22 afternoon, this phone number 1-833-421-0485 posing as Xfinity billing department claimed that Xfinity is giving its valued customers 50% off billing discount promotion for 3 yrs duration, and that I can only get the discount promotion if I buy $680 worth of gift card. That Target and Xfinity have business relationship as regards this 3 years 50% off billing discount promotion. Not knowing this was a scam, I went and bought Target gift card worth $680. Then, I called the so called Xfinity billing department phone number again and the staff who called his name "Joseph Morgan" collected the gift card number and access number. When I asked for payment confirmation number the guy could give it. He said that the payment confirmation will be sent to my email and phone number, but I didn't receive it even till this morning 12/30/22. That's when I knew it was probably a scam. Then I Googled Xfinity scam, and I found online that other people posted such type of Xfinity phone call asking for 50% discount promotion is a scam. I didn't know and I have been scammed yesterday 12/29/22!
I have reported this to Target on 12/30/22 at 1-800-544-2943 with Target case#: 171674232.
I have reported to FTC on 12/30/22 with FTC report#: 154830818.
I have reported to my US bank fraud department as well today 12/30/22, and they will be investigating this with Target. My bank has canceled my debit card used in purchasing Target gift card, and they are issuing me and sending me a new debit card.
I cannot imagine that I have been scammed of $680. This is very sad for me even in this difficult inflation era.
Xfinity needs to do better job in protecting its customers from fraudulent 3rd party contacts. This people got my phone number and they have their phone recording just like Xfinity as they posed to be Xfinity billing department representatives. The fraudulent Xfinity billing department even knew my current Xfinity billing balance of $342.13, and the fake staff called "Joseph Morgan" stated it to me. How did they get this private Xfinity billing account information? This is bad for Xfinity customers!
On the other hand, Target needs to do better job to add extra tracking security on its gift cards in case any of its customers were scammed through using their gift card.
I can't believe this actually happened to me yesterday...Very sad for me! My US Bank said that I cannot get my $680 money refunded.
