The California Product Stewardship Council (CPSC), in partnership with San Joaquin County Public Works and funded by CalRecycle, will host a free Textile Recovery Education Event from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the San Joaquin County Agricultural Commissioner’s Conference Center on May 29th.

RSVP is encouraged but not required. Click the link below to reserve your spot!

This event marks a critical opportunity for the San Joaquin Valley following the 2024 passage of SB 707 (The Responsible Textile Recovery Act). This landmark law, sponsored by CPSC, makes California the first state in the nation to require textile producers to fund and manage the recycling of their products—creating an immediate need for domestic textile recovery and reuse infrastructure.

an Joaquin County has already funded a range of textile recovery projects through CalRecycle’s Recycling Market Development Zone (RMDZ) program. At the event, attendees will experience live demonstrations of fiber identification scanning technology, learn how SB 707 will support new recycling systems, participate in interactive activities like the “Waste Knot” reuse exercise, and engage with community-driven efforts such as local interviews, student-led design and outreach initiatives, and emerging models for textile collection, repair, and redistribution.
