Workforce Development

The City of Lathrop draws from a regional workforce of 1,000,000 people who are skilled and semi-skilled in robotics, manufacturing and logistics.  There are nearly 85,000 regional residents who commute daily to the San Francisco Bay area for work, but would rather work closer to home.  Studies have shown a good portion of these commuters to have technical skill sets, some management /supervisory positions, and some software engineers.    

The San Joaquin County region, including Lathrop, understands a skilled workforce is key to attracting and retaining business and industry.  Employer opportunities to engage in internship programs and a high school apprenticeship program are available through University of the Pacific, San Joaquin Delta College, the Adult schools, San Joaquin County Office of Education, and San Joaquin County WorkNet. 

Public agencies, educational institutions, and private sector employers are working together to create career pathways in healthcare, logistics, coding, advanced manufacturing and more for entry level positions and to upskill the current workforce to meet the changing demands of industry and technology.
